We are post holiday season and a few steps into the new year. I have to say that instead of focusing so intensely on my goals for 2025, there is a deeper desire to rest, take a pause, and allow myself to check out for a bit.
Maybe my battery is a bit drained from all the incredibly fun and adventurous times I shared with my kids and grandkids while celebrating Christmas, New Year's and my grandson's birthday.
I'm guessing that you and I might agree that this year was a mixed bag of joy, growth, set-backs, sorrow, grief-and yes, true inspiration.
So, for today, instead of gearing up for all the new goals, I'm going to cozy up on my couch with a nice cup of tea, my cat and my sketch book journal.
I’ll let my pen wander across the page with scribbles, words, and verses, embracing a nonjudgmental flow and freeing my mind from frenetic planning. There will be plenty of time for structured action soon enough.
Let’s take a cue from winter’s quiet solstice. Nature uses this time to rest and restore—we can, too. By quieting our spirits, reflecting on what we’re grateful for, and allowing our bodies and minds to refresh, we prepare ourselves. Rest equips us to move forward with energy and clarity, ready for all the dreams, goals, and creativity that await in the gift of this new year.
Take a moment to pause. Let your creativity breathe and stretch gently. Your art practice—and your soul—will thank you.
Happy New Year!
