Embracing Artistic Freedom: Painting the Wings of Creativity

Embracing Artistic Freedom: Painting the Wings of Creativity

Recently, I have been painting snowbirds for a lesson within my Be Creative Membership. I love birds and remember watching them out our big picture window with my Grandpa when I was a little girl. It was so much fun to learn their names and observe their unique shapes and colors. Most of all, I wished I could be one for a day so I could fly!  Well fast forward a good 55 years later, I am flying and that is because I allowed myself to engage in my creativity and love for art again.

As we step into this new year, let's envision ourselves as birds—free, flying through the open skies, embracing the freedom that comes with exploring our artistic journey. The beauty of a bird lies not only in its graceful flight but also in the vivid colors and patterns of its feathers, a testament to the limitless possibilities of expression. Similarly, in our artistic pursuits, we have the opportunity to depict this freedom, to spread our wings and explore the boundless realms of creativity.

Reflecting on my own journey, not too long ago, I found myself trapped in an artistic rut. For years, I sidelined my passion for art, considering it a luxury that could only be indulged in some distant, perfect future. Like many of us, I felt that art would have to wait until I had more time, until the busyness of work and family responsibilities subsided. Little did I know that this very passion would become my lifeline in the most unexpected of times.

Amidst the challenges posed by Covid and personal hardships, I listened to the yearning in my heart and the longing in my soul. I dusted off my art supplies and transformed my kitchen into my own personal art camp. Yes, I started over. And what a liberating experience it was! I embraced messiness, experimented wildly, and allowed my inner child to play, coloring outside the lines with abandon. In those moments of vibrant exploration and artistic freedom, I found clarity, focus, and a newfound sense of self that was free to soar creatively.

The realization struck me deeply—engaging in a daily or even weekly art practice doesn't demand extensive time commitments. Just a mere 10 to 15 minutes of doodling or sketching can be a refreshing pause for our minds and a rejuvenating pick-me-up for our spirits. Often, we convince ourselves that we lack the time, prioritizing other aspects of life. However, acknowledging that nurturing our creativity brings immeasurable joy, fun, and renewed energy can transform not just our art, but also enrich every facet of our lives.

The truth is, by cultivating our creativity, we infuse vitality and inspiration into all areas, allowing our lives to flourish in ways we never imagined. Let's embrace this year with a mindset of growth and transformation in our artistic endeavors. Let's paint, draw, sing and compose with the vibrant hues of freedom and take flight into uncharted artistic territories.

Remember, as birds navigate the skies with grace and freedom, let's navigate our artistic journeys with the same spirit—fearless, liberated, and ever-evolving.

Wishing you a year filled with colorful exploration and boundless creativity!
